I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend. (J.R.R.Tolkien, The Two Towers)

When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force.

THE 4 COMMANDMENTS OF FIREARMS SAFETY

Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.

Never point the firearm at anything you do not want to destroy.

Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target and you have made the decision to shoot.

Always be aware of your target and what is beyond it.

I DON'T CARRY A GUN

I don’t carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.

I don’t carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.

I don’t carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m angry. I carry a gun so that I don’t have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.

I don’t carry a gun because my sex organs are too small. I carry a gun because I want to continue to use those sex organs for the purpose for which they were intended for a good long time to come.

I don’t carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.

I don’t carry a gun because I’m a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to heaven, I want to be a cowboy.

I don’t carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.

I don’t carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.

I don’t carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

WHAT DOES IT TAKE...AKA...CHARLES BRONSON WHERE ARE YOU WHEN WE NEED YOU

I just read the article about the gunman who had AN EXTENSIVE CRIMINAL HISTORY AND WAS OUT ON PAROLE FOR ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON. It seems that he killed 3 Oakland officers and seriously wounded another.

So I'm sitting here wondering why he was out in the first place. Who were the ones who released him to prey on society again.

If you have read this blog for a while you might remember the break-in at the funeral home where I almost shot the suspect. Go here for that story. At the time of the break-in he already had been convicted and sentenced to 20 years BUT a local judge had suspended 19 years and 6 months of the sentence. He was out on probation at that time. Now in Virginia if your probation is violated you are SUPPOSE to serve the part of your sentence that was suspended.

Now for the rest of the story...this weekend we stopped a pickup for doing 44 in a 25 MPH zone. The driver begged us not to give him another ticket...seems like he had just wrecked and rolled his truck, was facing another speeding ticket in an adjacent town and was afraid that if we gave him this one it MIGHT violate his probation that he was on for breaking into the funeral home a few years back.

Justice may be blind but sometimes I think she's also deaf and dumb.

Now I understand why some police officers get so burnt out.

And Again One More Time AKA Another Lost Hound

For some reason I seem to be a lost Hound magnet.

http://hstallard.blogspot.com/2007/10/third-time-again.html

This hungry hound showed up the other day at my son's where I babysit. She has evidently been lost for some time as she is practically nothing but skin and bones.

Unfortunately while she has one of those fancy orange and reflective collars on there is a big hole where the brass nameplate should be.

It looks like she'll be around for a while so I took a large bag of dog food down this morning when I reported in for my babysitting shift.
