I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend. (J.R.R.Tolkien, The Two Towers)

When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force.

I Thought I Just Took Care of This AKA Deja-Vou

Those of you who have been reading this Blog for a while probably remember...

"Little Dog Lost"

Well one year and 3 days later here we go again. The nice lady holding the wayward hounds is a deputy with the Wise Co. Sheriff's Office. As I came by she was trying to get the dogs to come to her but traffic was heavy and the dogs were dodging
in and out of it. I stopped and was able to grab both of them. We called the owner who showed up with a young child not in a child restraint.
As I was leaving the Deputy was preparing to return the lost dogs and issue a summons to the driver for not having the little girl in a child restraint.

Sex Offender Registry

Recently one of my other blogger friends had a question about how to find out if someone was a registered sex offender.

Most states that have a registry, have a link to it either on the main state web site or on their state police site.

The friend that asked about it seemed to think that she was being overly protective of her kids but I say that is something that you can never be too protective about. One of the things I always did when I was talking to my students about being careful around strangers was to show them all of the pictures of registered sex offenders in their and the surrounding counties because what you don't know CAN hurt you.

Most registries will give you a picture, name, address, and offense. Some like the one in VA will give you a map showing the actual location of the offender.

For the Virginia registry go here...
http://sex-offender.vsp.virginia.gov/sor/html/search.htm

For the Tennessee registry go here...

For other states you can do a Google search for their registry.

Close Encounters of the Bear Kind AKA Nightmares.com

One of my blogger friends, knowing of my irrational BEAR PHOBIA sent me a copy of the above book. Now whether the timing of this to coincide with the opening of deer season was just a coincidence or a deviously planned act remains to be seen. Whatever the intent, the effect was the same. After reading of horrible, gory, bloody acts of enraged Ursus arctos horribilis and Ursus americanus, of their almost human like need for revenge, and of their uncanny ability to track and find those they have targeted, it is now time once again to sally forth with pepper spray, bib, and fork in my back pocket and beard the bear in his den. If no new posts are forthcoming
from this blog after a reasonable time then mark me 10-42 (ending tour of duty) with score Bears 1...Howard 0.

New use for recycled tires AKA Dog Tired

This is the old tire made into a flowerbed that is sometimes the bed of the wayward hound dog.

This is the wayward hound dog I've been trying all summer to snap a picture of in his bed.

This is the wayward hound dog that would just love to get his teeth in me.
