Another Road Trip

I'll be leaving tomorrow for another road trip to Charlottesville. Have to go to a 3 day conference on having our police department getting accreditation from the state. One of the main things (besides all of the extra paperwork) that this will do for our department is make it more accountable for everything we do.

I hope to get to see Eric and Heather since they will be only 15 minutes away from our motel.

Here's an odd thought that someone mentioned to me the other day...When someone asks for directions, do you give it to them in miles or the time it takes to get there? As in how far is Bristol from here? Answer...about an hour or about 50 miles.

Expecting

Just got back from Charlottesville where I helped my son Eric and his wife Heather move. In anticipation of him being transferred back to this area ( he's now 2nd on the list for the next opening in Scott County) they have sold their home and moved into an apartment. While there we found out that they are expecting their first child sometime next September.

I took my camera to take pictures but we were so busy moving that I really forgot about doing it. You want to try something really exciting?...try driving a 16 foot rental truck in downtown Charlottesville while trying to follow and keep up with someone while they go from lane to lane in bumper to bumper traffic. Wouldn't have been so bad if I knew where I was going but I didn't even know where I was. I really dislike driving those trucks. That's why I gave up driving a school bus.

I was supposed to stay for a police conference at the academy in Staunton but it was canceled due to bad weather. We hit ice and snow coming home today. Had to stop several times to deice the car but we made it with no major problems.

Computer still not back to 100%

Some of my lost programs I didn't even miss till I needed them to work on something. What I really miss the most though is some of the music I had on the hard drive but don't have a disk for. I could go online on some of those peer to peer sharing thangies but that's where I got a lot of my bugs from originally. Anyway...

I went back to Eric and Heather's again to bow hunt this last weekend. We both missed one and saw several more.

Looking down from the woods at the mansion. For those who didn't catch the first story on this...the mansion and 2600 acres were a gift to someone who has so much money that it's their SPARE mansion and they only use it when they go to Charlottesville to watch the UVA ballgame.

Another Road Trip

Just got back from Charlottesville. Went up to help my youngest son do some work around his house. It's a good thing that my Dad used to come down and help me do the same kind of things so now I know how to help my sons. While reading Contrary Goddess Gestalt of Dad I couldn't help but think about my Dad and how he was the one I always called when I needed something fixed around the house.

Road Trip

Just spent several days in North Carolina helping my son and his wife work on their back yard. Being only 5 minutes from the beach they have nothing but sand for a yard.
I actually made it down and back without getting lost this time. Last time I took an exit off Interstate 40 to get gas and ended up in downtown Raleigh. I didn't get to help with the really hard part...moving 15 tons of fill dirt from the front of the house to the back one cart load at a time. I had to be back in court for the funeral home break in...but the wheels of justice grind exceedingly slow and once again the case was continued until next month.

Weekend Trip

Went to Albemarel Co. Va. this weekend to hunt with my youngest son who is a Virginia State Trooper. One of the troopers he works with lives in the basement of a spare mansion (not the house in the picture...that's where the caretaker lives) owned by one of those people who have so much they really don't know what all they do have. So his co-worker got us permission to hunt the woods at the end of the pasture in the next picture. There were quiet a few restrictions on what we could and couldn't do, where we could and couldn't shoot (guess where we saw the most of the deer). The snow in the woods was about 2-3 inches deep with a sheet of ice on top about 1/4 inch thick. That was a lot of fun, especially climbing back up the same hill you just slid down, twice. We saw over 100 deer, mostly driving to the farm or back out or in the field where we weren't allowed to shoot. Deer aren't stupid, why would they want to fight the ice and snow when they could be in a nice grassy field with lots of extra feed and nice fat cattle to keep them company. I did get one shot but had problems with my ammo. Don't ask...I don't want to talk about it!!! Fortunately I still have some meat in the freezer from the deer given to me by my friend.
