I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend. (J.R.R.Tolkien, The Two Towers)

When I carry a gun, I don't do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I'm looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don't carry it because I'm afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn't limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force.

Honey...it's made from honey!*

Update on Mice in the Pantry

Total count to date is 24 large and small, 13 of those in one 24 hour period. The secret is HONEY. A small drollop on the bait tray and they can't wait for me to set the trap on the floor. Caught one poor unfortunate by hand as it was running back and forth across the counter. They all must have had a sweet tooth.

Just stumbled across your blog while surfing. I've been having a good time reading it. Mice are a problem in the late fall at our house as well. We are so far out in the country, where else are they gonna go, right? Also, I love the movie The 13th Warrior. It is on my top 10 list. Keep writing so I can keep reading. Best to you and yours.
